Last Monday we traveled to the Aileu district to run a one day puppet Boneka making workshop at the Aileu Youth Centre.
Boneka is the the Indonesian word for puppet as there is no word for puppet in tetum.
The workshop was hosted by Aileu Youth Center and facilitate by German Bilateral Cooperation Agency GIZ, an organisation who hosts community youth activities in various districts in Timor Leste.
The young participants were between the ages of 15 and 25 and were all very enthusiastic and innovative in their designs using simple accessible materials.
Narrow roads that climb through the mountains surrounding Dili, densely populated by people undertaking road contraction by hand making a distance of 47km route a 2 hour journey.
In the beautiful clean, crisp, green landscape we were treated to a fun day of sharing language, laughing and animating unusual little characters.
All involved were very appreciative, especially ourselves. We extend our gratitude to Asialink, Agathe Schiwy and Damio Dato Cau from GIZ, Benny and the wonderful staff from the centre for making the event possible.
